Technical overview

Touchdose can be deployed in three configurations. The deployment configuration influences both the functionality of the application and the user experience.

Deployment configurations​

  • Standalone application — Touchdose is accessed directly via a web browser, independently of any clinical system. The clinician manually enters the required patient information before Touchdose can provide dosing recommendations. Touchdose displays dosing recommendations for the clinician's review. Neither order writeback nor observation writeback is available in standalone deployments.

  • Embedded panel within a clinical system (patient-context launch) — Touchdose appears as a panel within the clinical system in the context of the patient currently being viewed. Touchdose may retrieve patient information from the clinical system to support its recommendations. The clinician selects the medication and indication within Touchdose. Touchdose displays dosing recommendations for the clinician's review. Order writeback is not available in this configuration; the recommendation must be entered into the clinical system manually.

  • Launched within the prescribing workflow (in-order launch, with order writeback) — Touchdose is launched from within an active medication ordering workflow in the EP System, with the medication context already set. The clinician selects the indication within Touchdose, and on completion may write the resulting dose recommendation back into the EP System's pre-signature order form (order writeback). The medication cannot be changed within Touchdose in this launch context. If the incoming medication context cannot be resolved by the integration, the prescribing flow cannot continue in this launch context. Where supported by the integration, Touchdose may also update the patient's record with newly entered values for weight and height (observation writeback). In every configuration, Touchdose does not authorise, sign, or commit any medication order. Where order writeback is used, the order remains in the EP System's pre-signature draft until the clinician independently reviews and authorises it within the EP System.

Launch contexts​

Where Touchdose is integrated with an EP System, the launch context describes the information that is already in scope when Touchdose opens, and can determine which Touchdose features are available — most notably whether order writeback is available. The supported launch contexts depend on the integration. The two launch contexts described above — patient-context launch and in-order launch — correspond to the second and third deployment configurations.
